Cool Story:

The story behind this truck is basically finding it as a young teenager in 2002 - before these trucks were cool and gaining the popularity they have. I saw something in the truck that many people didn't at the time (look at what people are paying for these trucks now on Barrett Jackson and/or Mecum)  The paint and body work had already been done, likely in the very late 90s or very, very early 2000s, so the truck already had a good look, and the previous owner had swapped the original 4.1 Inline 6/manual trans out for a 350/700r4 combo which was fun, but the build wasn't to my taste, as it had small chamber 305 heads on it, which eventually ruined the engine due to detonation and broke majority of the piston skirts off the cast pistons in 2017.

That's where my build really came to life. I had already lowered the truck in 2011 and given it a good ride height as well as changed out the wheels and tires in 2004 from the stock steels with beauty rings and dog dish center caps to aluminums and white letter tires.  I contacted a guy on Facebook I had been following for a while and talking to who is a pretty well known engine builder of high performance engines and competition head porter up in the twin cities in Minnesota. We both talked a long while, and I originally was planning to go with a "budget build" 400-450hp steel headed sbc, just something to give the truck a nice kick in the butt and make a good hot rod out of. Anyway, we decided to go with a 406sbc, I located a nice virgin block a few hours away in SE IA in very late 2017 or very early 2018 and that's where it all began.

Long story short my mild horsepower budget build sbc ended up being anything but that. He talked me into going all out with it. I now currently have a fire breathing nearly 12:1 600hp aluminum headed, forged everything 406 sbc monster under the hood that will just about make any grown man cry when I line up against them at a stop light, and will absolutely fry the tires off at the flick of your thumb and finger.  However, in the back of my mind, this is exactly what I always wanted, I just never though in my head I'd ever be able to afford it.

Moving forward,  I have plans to change my wheel and tire setup to billet specialties wheels and go as wide as I can in the back (15x14 or 15x15) with bigger mickey thompson tires, hoping for close to or exactly the size of 29x18R15 out back.  Body won't change much, paint is getting old, so I may re spray the whole truck down the road, add a roll cage while I'm in there etc, and do some other small things, but for now I'm pretty happy with where it's at.
